Bigăr Waterfall is in Caraș-Severin County, within Cheile Nerei-Beușnița National Park. You can include the area in a trip through the Anina Mountains while following the protected area’s rules.

The spring and waterfall

The waterfall is fed by the Bigăr spring. After approximately 200 metres, the spring water reaches the limestone-tufa ledge and flows into the Miniș River. Mineral deposits and vegetation contributed to the appearance of the travertine formation.

A marker for the 45th parallel north is also nearby. A stop here can complement a visit to the waterfall and its surroundings while keeping to the permitted access routes.

Its appearance after the 2021 collapse

Part of the travertine formation collapsed in June 2021, changing the waterfall’s appearance. Photographs taken before that event show its historical configuration. Check the date and context of images when planning your visit.

Plan your visit

Check the park administration’s notices for current access conditions. Wear footwear suited to the terrain, follow signs and keep the area clean. Water flow and appearance can vary, so your experience also depends on natural conditions.

For a longer excursion, look for routes and visitor points recommended by the administration and adapt your itinerary to your available time and experience.
